A Weekend In Newport
I have a confession to make. I am not good at “doing” the Hamptons. All that flash blinds me, and when I want to leave the city, I want to leave the city. Get the hell out of Dodge. So when the opportunity arose in June to visit Newport, land of sea and sailors, I was thrilled. For this Midwesterner-by-way-of-Manhattan, Newport is a treasure trove of New England charm and debauchery. I loved it so much that I returned for the Fourth of July. More »

Top Ten Things Learned In Newport, R.I.

[Drinking Dark and Stormys at the Yacht Club]
I took a well needed breakcation from the Hamptons this weekend to catch up with the Sailors of Newport, R.I. Here is a taste of what I learned:
Top 10 things I learned in Newport, R.I. this weekend:
10. The Folk Festival is quite the party. You missed it already but the Jazz Festival you can still catch, which I hear is equally as fun. Just take it from me…you’re better off watching from afar.
9. I hear there is a “boom boom room” downstairs at the Clark Cooke House that is apparently quite a scene.
8. The New York Yacht Club has the perfect hill for sliding down at fast speeds…
7. Real sailors drink Dark and Stormys…How to make a Dark and Stormy:
* 2 oz Gosling’s Black Seal rum,
* 3 oz Barrit’s ginger beer
* lime wedge for garnish if desired.

It’s Time To Prepare For The Weekend!

[Photo via Ben Watts]
This week seemed particularly slow no? I have been preparing for the weekend since Tuesday morning. Exciting NEWS! I will be exploring new territory this weekend as I decided to REALLY head out east…to Newport, R.I.
I am expecting quite the adventure and hoping to come back with some new tales to tell. Don’t worry though, we have several gofg’ers on the scene in the Hamptons, who will, like always be giving us the “Juice”. Whether you are heading out east, across the shore completely, or staying in the great city of Manhattan, take a hint from these beach babes, and go get some color!
