The Lisa Perry Shop In Sag Harbor: Popping With 60’s Style And Wisdom

[Douglas Marshall with Lisa Perry]

If you’ve never had the pleasure of meeting designer Lisa Perry, then take a trip to Sag Harbor to the Lisa Perry “Pop” Shop (as in Pop Art) at the American Hotel. The store is a perfect translation of Lisa’s vibe and essence and really gives a sense of who is Lisa Perry.

On July 5th her 1,000 square foot store opened and Sag Harbor began to smile. It’s hard not to, considering the store is fun and bright and imparts a cheery vibe. She  has reinvented the modern-day 60’s within the cozy space at the famed American Hotel. The Lisa Perry Shop gives off an heir of a time when life was a little bit more free and happy. Her collection of art, books, gadgets and wall decor adorning the Pop Shop speak volumes to Lisa’s inner being.

LABL Brings The Street To Sag Harbor

labl presents art 4

When I think of Sag Harbor, cutting edge fashion isn’t the first thing that comes to mind, but between Lisa Perry’s boutique in the American Hotel, and LABL -the Manhattan-based fashion/art/lifestyle collective, setting up shop under the Java Nation (78 Main St), it may soon crack the top 10.

The LABL team has done an excellent job of procuring hard-to-find and under-the-radar labels like Substance and Kenyon Bajus, and they also have an avid interest in building relationships with emerging artists, some of whose work is on display at the store.

Many of the artists belong to Arts 4, which is based in Eastern Long Island.  If you go tonight between 6-8 , you can mingle with the artists as you admire their art (and devour the free Hagan-Daaz}.

Clothes Make The Girls

At Jill Zarin’s 4th of July fête, both little Piper’s Lily pink and white and her glowing (and youthful!) mother Madeline’s muted cream shift and classic brown leather pumps epitomized summer bash chic. Of course jellies, healthy tans, and genuine grins are always a plus!

Jeff Goldstein On His Glaciers Of Ice

blue and cream ownerHere in the Hamptons there are many boutiques and labels which strive to capture the essence of patrician weekend-wear. While the old guard still sport their St. James stripes and lightweight Chanel tweeds and the unsure stick to Ralph, Lily, and whatever the Intermix mannequins are wearing, the young, the artsy, and the sartorially aware movers and shakers have learned to use Blue&Cream in East Hampton as their closet, stylist, and evening hangout par excellence.

Curious as to the origins of this rather avant-garde collective, we hit up the store’s creator and owner Jeff Goldstein and got him to give us the 411 on juxtaposition, staying ahead of the curve, and why Charlotte Ronson is his muse:

Clothes Make The Woman

claire drives the roverGuess who?

I loved Claire’s ensemble so much the other day (on the way to dropping me off at the ‘ol Jitney station) that I had to post. Though she had no one to impress but me (and I’m the easiest fashion critic out there),  with her red jeans, nautical like hoodie, and wet hair, I thought she was hands down the “coolest” looking “Hamptons-Casual” in the entire town.

Clothes Make The Girls

southampton fashion

This feels so stereotypical Southampton-the bug sunglasses, velcro Keds, oxford button down, premium denim cutoffs, flat gold sandals… and yet I totally love it. I think I prefer the outfit of the girl on the left; but I’d take either. How about you?

Suit Up!

green birkin bikiniI think if you detach the suspenders, this wouldn’t be so bad, but the suspenders are the focal point of the suit. Judging from its color -”birkin green,” the designers are going for a classy equestrian undertone, but I think waves and whinnies are of the oil/water category, though the model is doing her damnedest to prove me wrong. Am I?
