Farmstanding Aid

lenn thompsonA reader just wrote me asking for a farmstand recommendation. She just moved to Southampton, and has friends in Mattituck who insist that, as far as locally-grown produce goes, the north fork is where it’s at. I’d love to help her out but I’ve shamefully only been to the Milk Pail in Water Mill and Sang Lee in Peconic, both of which were lovely, with excellent, if somewhat undersized bounty. So I’m turning her plea over to you. Where do you all get your 5-a-day fixings?

PIKE’S FARM STAND on SAGG ROAD!!
Its picture perfect setting on old wagons with hand painted signs just adds to the sense of appreciation of a simpler and purer time – where you could trace your food from the ground in which it was grown to the table.

Pike’s Farm Stand, Sagg Road (just south of Rte. 27), Sagaponack.

no, the mattituck friends are right - north fork farms take the cake…. i find that all of the hamptons farms i’ve stopped at are selling produce either driven in from the north fork or even further away… i got peaches from new jersey on scuttlehole road this weekend. ew.
