Tripoli Patterson
Tripoli Patterson is a pro surfer. He’s lived in Bali and New Zealand. He puts together fantastic exhibitions for artists he discovers in his travels. His tee-shirt line’s like Christopher Holland’s on acid. New York’s hipster elite love him. So too do older, more established gallery owners. Among the east end’s young wave riders, he is God. And he is only 24.

Truman Capote’s Mark On Sagaponack

Hampton Style has an excellent article about the house of long-time Hamptons character Truman Capote (whose Breakfast at Tiffany’s inspired our sister site’s original nom de blog).  Like so many of us who spend time out East, he loved his time there, because it was

“… a retreat… it was not Manhattan. … it was so much quieter.  You could hear the ocean…”

The Greening Of Greenbacked Sagaponack

The Greening Of Greenbacked SagaponackOn the wings of respected author and resident Linda Bird Franke, Sagaponack is becoming an eco-friendly hamlet. Franke just got the approval to form a Green Committee from the village board, a committee whose duty it will be to encourage Sagaponackers to “insulate hot water heaters, lower thermostats,” and petition for a more energy efficient school bus.

This is all very commendable, but in her article discussing it on Hamptons.com Andrea Aurichio is perhaps a little too concerned with letting us know just how wealthy Martha Stewart”s summering spot is. Sagaponack”s “well-heeled regulars” need to be reminded that “green is more than just the color of the sums of money needed to buy an acre in their coveted village.”

Christian Wolffer: A Bubbly Man

wolffer estate, sagaponackI’m a total and complete uncouth girl when it comes to wine: make it sweet and white or effervescent. The wines at the Wolffer Estate are markedly not sweet, so when Rachelle and I joined the Plum team for some post-wrap bonding on Wolffer’s lawn, I wasn’t sure what to order. As the other girls waxed rhapsodic over the rose, I scanned the menu. I’d had the rosé before, and while I can tell it’s a good wine (I think), it is, again, not sweet.

And then my eyes alit on the Cuvée brut. Dared I sparkle so early? I did, I decided, and it was delectable, kind of lemony and nutty tasting and very dry. I liked it because I like anything that fizzes, but I’m pretty sure it would please much more discerning palates than mine. Have you all tried it? What is your favorite Wolffer wine?

On Saturday night, about 1,000 fun and festive people gathered under the large tents at Luna Farm in Sagaponack for the Annual Love Heals benefit – one of the most fun and breezy events of the Hamptons summer season. This year’s theme was “Adventures in Wonderland,” and Alices and Queens of Hearts enjoyed finger lickin’ good bbq eats, Tasti D’Lite, Imperia Vodka cocktails and brews from Brooklyn Brewery. The money raised funds the programs that Love Heals creates.

If there’s one event I never miss in the Hamptons each season, it’s the “God’s Love We Deliver Mid Summer Night’s Drinks.” Not only is it one of the most fun and festive parties, always drawing a friendly crowd, it helps a cause that reaches so many people in need. GLWD’s mission is to “improve the health and well-being of men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-altering illnesses by alleviating hunger and malnutrition.” (from GLWD.org).

Each year Mid Summer Night’s Drinks is hosted at a remarkable Hamptons residence by people who are committed to God’s Love. This year Rory and Elie Tahari opened up their amazing Sagaponack estate to host the fete and share with us their mission to help others. More »
