Sometimes, on long summer days, I wonder what my BFF’s from childhood are up to….

Bankie Banx & Roots & Herb Bring Reggae’s Finest To Surf Lodge

[Photo by K.Doran for Rob Rich]
“Happiness is a piece of mind.”
Bankie Banx & Roots & Herb took over Surf Lodge this weekend. Bankie Banx (born Clement Ashley Banks, 1953, Anguilla) is a reggae singer, is known as the “Anguillan Bob Dylan” [Wiki]. I can not think of a better place or time to go listen to some reggae.
Bankie Banx(singer) Marley Eiford(Guitarist) Toshi(Drums) and Marley ( Bass Guitar).

Shall We Dance?

Now this makes me think of weddings and girl scout father-daughter square dances. Just another lil’ shill for the SL.

On Missing Me At Surf Lodge…
On DBTH this morning:
A DBTH reader was out east this weekend and headed out to the Surf Lodge and fun was had. Our reader says “it was really fun, it’s really pretty on the water and the design is pretty sweet. The bathroom situation is annoying though. I did not see Rachelle.” Oh, don’t let that ruin your perfect night.

Photo Of The Day: Chilling Amongst Wicker Elephants

I have been accused more than once of “Shilling” for the Surf Lodge. No, they have never paid me a dime to “promote” their place (like they would NEED to anyway, they’ve been in Vogue, NYTimes, Bravo TV, and practically everything else). I just like it. Here’s another great photo of the lounge area in front of the restaurant. Accuse me of “shilling” all you want, but tell me where else in the world you’re going to find these sweet wicker elephant tables?!

Waking Up Stephanie Wei At Surf Lodge
I wake Miss Stephanie Wei who is enjoying her slumber in room #8 at Surf Lodge. She explains to me everything you need to know about sex surf wax.

Morning In Montauk
Well I finally did it…I had a slumber party at Surf Lodge. The bed was so comfortable that I almost didn’t get up. Alas, the coconut coffee and sun drenched deck had my name written all over them. Stephanie Wei is here with me…she’s still sleeping for hopefully a lot longer. We have a BIG day ahead of us (big weekend for that matter), and I need her to be on her A game.

Hither Hills Helps You Build Your Dream Castle
Out of sand, but still. Every Thursday this beach in Montauk hosts a sand castle competition, starting at 9:30. The winner gets a tee-shirt, and you get the opportunity to scope out budding architects. Happy Scoopings!
Hither Hills State Park is located at 50 South Fairview Rd, Montauk.

Lobsters Bringing Me Back Home

[Playing with Crustaceans at Grosman's]
I can’t believe there was a time where I didn’t love lobster (around age 9 I believe). Thank god that, (besides that one little mishap with the dish at Legal Seafoods in Boston in college), I have gotten over that phase of my life. Lobsters are one of the best things the ocean has to offer us, and growing up in the middle of the country, they were quite the TREAT for me…

Stand-Up Paddleboarding 101

[Meeting our instructor Zack from Surf Lodge]
Before this past friday, I’d never heard of paddleboarding in any form. Rachelle confused it with kickboarding, and assured me she was very good, until I pulled up a photo of paddleboarders. Virginity established, we headed out to Surf Lodge with Luigi Tadini for a lesson with the affable and adept Zach Bliss.
Bliss, and the rest of the SL staff, assured us we would soon be pb converts, but when we saw how huge the boards were -similar to longboards, only with footpads, we were a little apprehensive. Thankfully the sport, or at least its stand-up version, is as easily mastered as it is enjoyable; within a minute of our on-shore lesson, we, and the delightful Luigi Tadini, were on our occasionally circular way across Fort Pond.
