Photo Of The Day: Sunset Paddle Out In Memory Of Andy Kessler In Montauk

A paddle out was held in Montauk Friday evening in memory of New Yorker and skateboarding legend Andy Kessler who died unexpectedly last Monday during his trip to the East End. Kessler spent his life pioneering the sport and went on to design skate parks in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Montauk where he picked up his love for the surf. Hundreds gathered on the beach to pay tribute to the skate board pioneer with friends, locals, the ocean, and their surf boards…

Suit Up!
Browsing through my friends’ Fourth of July pictures, I stumbled upon a swimsuit I just had to get my hands on. The red, white and blue sailboats make it both patriotic and nautical at the same time, and perfect for the summer holiday or anytime you want to hop on a boat- or just want to look like you might. Lucky for me, even if my friend is in California, that’s not the only place the Shoshanna suit is; You can order it online from Bloomingdale’s (and it’s on sale!). Ah, the wonders of the internet!

Photo Of The Day: Rain, Rain, Go Away…

[GofG Hampton's cloudy backyard]
The summer has officially started and we don’t want to see any more days like this. The GofG Hamptons crew is still waiting for some sunshine with temperatures in the high digits since it IS June and there is a beach in our backyard in desperate need of some visitors including the likes of Kendra, Carson, Theresa, and Kristin. Where are you sunshine?

What Is A Mermaid Purse?
So asked Foursquare founder, Dennis Crowley, this weekend. The Hampton-going tech geek apparently spotted “Thousands” of these things on the beach. Curious too? Find out what’s all over the beaches out east below…

Stuff Spit Out By The Sea…Strange Indeed
Okay so I thought I’d make it through the week without having to post on that strange creature that has washed up on the shores of Montauk….you know the one that EVERYONE’s been talking about. What is it? Real or photoshopped? Sea turtle without shell? Skinned Racoon? Mutated dog from a lab off the coasts? Well, quite frankly I AM starting to care about getting to the bottom of this mess…if only so I don’t ever have to stare at that disgusting photo again! (If you have been living in a hole and care to see the thing go HERE, you can even vote on what you think it is…WHAT FUN!)
Ah we may NEVER actually know the answer to this mystery. Sometimes the throw up of the sea can be strange indeed. Reminds me of this post from last year (see photo above). This poor guy got beached around Quogue….sad story for sure, but at least we could IDENTIFY the creature that time!

RIP Tides, And How To Escape Them
Davy Jones’ Locker claimed two East Enders this past weekend. Both men were able swimmers, but the combination of rip tides and ensuing panic proved too strong. When I was getting my waterfront lifeguard certification, rip tides were one of the biggest stress points -how to predict and identify them, as well as how best to rescue those less in the know.
Right now we’re in the middle of prime storm and hurricane season, and rip tides are a certain accompaniment, so even if you’re an excellent swimmer, don’t stray far off the shore. More »

Bloom On The Beach
If you’re like most people who summer in the Hamptons, you spend your days eating delicious BBQ and your nights drinking delicious cocktails. Although you would like to believe it, dancing on tabletops is not adequate exercise to burn off all those extra calories. Luckily Erika Bloom Pilates Plus has got you covered. Beginning this Saturday, Erika will be holding pilates mat sessions on the beach from 11 to 12. Atlantic Avenue Beach in Amagansett may be a little far for most, but at $27 per class, or $125 for five classes, it’s worth it. So go ahead and have that cheeseburger with bacon, and then make sure you hit the beach in the morning. For more info call 212-288-3410.

Beached
I have a confession to make: in the three weeks I’ve been here, I’ve yet to swim in the ocean. I’ve only gotten my feet sandy once, and that was to take pictures. Sad, right? I know that the beaches here are nice, but only because I’ve read that on the internet. So I’m asking for your advice: if you only have limited time, which beaches are worth it? How do the rest of you busy bees make homage to Poseidon?

Sunrise In Quogue
Susan Lucci’s romantic seaside retreat in Quogue took the cover story in last week’s Hamptons Magazine. Quogue, one of the least “Hampton-y” spots of the Hamptons quickly won over Lucci’s heart in the mid 80s and her clan has been making summer memories there ever since.
“It’s the quietest place in the Hamptons. A place with lots of traditions and generations. There’s still a sweetness there.” Lucci says.
These beaches have been the spot of many the “magical” morning for the Lucci’s. We got a taste of that magic this weekend, and man was it sweet!

Guess The Beach
Snapped these photos on my bike ride the other day….so? Where am I? (Don’t worry it took me awhile to figure out!) Here’s a hint: It was a LONG beach ride!
