Lululemon’s Windows In East Hampton Giving Us Words To Live By

Lululemon in East Hampton gives us words to live byLululemon is expected to open on Saturday the 28th on East Hampton’s Main Street. To me this is a sign of the continued success of their company that has pleased many the Hampton’s set women over the last couple of years with their comfortable and chic workout gear. My workout gear tends to be tattered and torn, rudimentary memorials from my college years, but Lulu’s window ads alone are convincing enough to get even me to stop in so that I may finally fit in at my yoga classes.

Whether you do it while wearing your Lululemon gear or not, always remember to: “DANCE, Sing, Floss AND Travel.” and “Do one thing a day that Scares you!”

Got (Harvey) Milk?

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of joining our dear friends Peter Wilson and Scott Sanders at their beautiful home just off the water in East Hampton for the Hetrick-Martin/Harvey Milk Institute “School’s Out” benefit. The setting was purely magnificent, being held in their back yard with pathways leading through meticulously landscaped gardens, and an organic wooden bridge opening up to a tennis court lined with ancient-looking trees. The hors d’oeuvres were delightful and the drinks flowed freely. And after some of the teenagers from the high school spoke about what HMI has done for them, the dance floor opened up and the DJ got busy! More »

Interview With Turtle Crossing’s “Purple Turtle” Creators

Claire and I were the very first guests at Turtle Crossing’s “Turtle Tuesdays” last night…where you go dressed in turtle garb to receive your free “Purple Turtle”, the drink invented by chef Arthur and served by bartender Greg. This hot spot in East Hampton is quickly becoming a favorite of ours. We had fish tacos over Memorial Day weekend, and last night we got to try their specialties: jalapeno-stuffed hush puppies and parmesan-encrusted grilled corn on the cob (my favorite!) If Southwestern grub isn’t your thing, go for the drinks, the cool staff, and the in-the-know patrons. Not only were we given a full tour of the place (including the kitchen),  we also learned about all of the spots favored by the locals directly from the horse’s mouth…the fabulous local lady who shared the scoop with us, as well as her hush puppies! mmmmm……

The Annual Hamptons Art Show Set To Open At The Fireplace Project

Just because you can’t go downtown doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the art scene. The Annual Hamptons Art Show will have it’s opening reception this Saturday from 6-8pm at the Fireplace Project. Curated by Klaus Kertess, the Fireplace Project is a contemporary art gallery located in East Hampton. If you’ve been making trips out East for quite some time, you may recognize it as the former Talmage garage on Springs Fireplace Road.

How To Serve Wine Without Handcuffs

[Image via New York State Liquor Authority]

Turns out that all that stands between you and your liquor-serving gallery is $31 and a permit filed 15 days in advance. A little thing, sure, if one whose violation shouldn’t result in arrests and court dates. Some gallery owners claim they have in fact tried to file for permits, citing lazy or absent SLA members as to why their requests remained unrealized. In response the incident at Vered, many have decided it’s best to shutter the booze, at least for now. More »

Hamptons House Of The Day

Today’s offering is a bit more humble, a East Hampton saltbox with only 1BR (and another bed in the finished basement). Salt boxes and gardens are adorable, as is the home’s location, on Stephan Hands Lane. Plus, at 9K for August (24K for the whole year), this “pied a terre” is relatively affordable aussi. More »

Ken Silver Wants You To Free Tibet, Or At Least Look At It

Being fans of creature comforts (and loathe to travel the tour-guided trail), Tibet has never ranked all that high on my list of dream destinations. My recalcitrance is not, however, indicative of disinterest; the very little I know of Tibet -that it is isolated, dramatically gorgeous, mountainous and barren, that its people are oppressed and shunned by a foreign government towards which they feel no kinship, and that the recent installation of a high-speed train has resulted in an influx of trampling visitors, make me want to know more. Now, thanks to the photographer Ken Silver and East Hampton’s Walk Tall Gallery, I can. Silver’s photos of Tibet, which focus on the rural Tibetans and their land, seem to encapsulate what Tibet really is, proud, unyielding, and harshly beautiful. More »

Round Swamp Farm: Why It’s Worth Coming ‘Round

Sure, we all have our favorite place to buy sweet corn and local produce, and I am not recommending that you let your loyalties stray, but there is one magical farm stand in East Hampton that offers something that few stands do: Round Swamp Farm on Three Mile Harbor. Not only do they have amazing produce, Round Swamp also has a fish market that rivals any high-end grocery in freshness. Throwing together a last minute dinner party? Instead of making your own guacamole, pick it up at Round Swamp. You won’t be disappointed. On your way to the beach? Bring some of their famous “chicken balls” as a snack. They’re DELICIOUS and come in both the buffalo and BBQ varieties. Wash them down with Shelly’s Sun Tea which is unique to Round Swamp and the most deliciously refreshing iced tea I have ever tasted. Turtle Tuesdays, Or Why You Should Have Kept Your TMNT Memorabilia

Last weekend, on Rachelle’s and my night of attempts, we managed to accomplish one thing: a southwestern-style pig-out, brought to us by the terrific kitchen of Turtle Crossing (and our Sacajawea of a driver). If it hadn’t been nearing on midnight, we would doubtless lingered over jalepeno hush puppies and TC’s lauded margaritas. Today, starting at five, you can augment your lingering with free Purple Turtle cocktails (Christiana vodka, sour apple, and grape juice). The catch? Make sure you have something turtle-adorned with or on you. Out of luck? Email me; thirteen years of my life were spent swimming for a team whose mascot was a snapping turtle. That’s a lot of tee-shirts.

Turtle Crossing is located at 221 Pantigo Road, East Hampton
