EAST HAMPTON
Murder Shakes East Hampton
A millionaire New Jersey husband and wife were found shot in their East Hampton summer home, and Suffolk County authorities are investigating it as a murder-suicide.
Police said Lester Stockel, founder of a credit card-receipt processing business, shot his wife Georgiana before shooting himself early Monday. Authorities responding to 911 calls from the residence found the couple in a bedroom. He was declared dead at the scene; she died later at a hospital.

A Perk Of Arranged Marriage
One of my high school boyfriends had an arranged marriage. We didn’t stay together. His faraway bride, and his feelings regarding her, were always a point of unvoiced fascination to me. He didn’t really know what she looked like, had never spoken to her, never written her. A daughter of a family friend. He’d meet her on their wedding day. If his nonchalance regarding his future was feigned (he was not, on the whole, particularly relaxed guy), he never let on, but, long after we were finished, my curiosity remained.
Tonight’s my (and your, if you’re so inclined) chance to assuage it, at least somewhat. The Jewish Center of the Hamptons is screening a showing of Arranged, a tale of a friendship born between two women, one an Orthodox Jew, the other Muslim, upon learning that each has an arranged marriage. Hamptons House Of The Day
Rachelle and I recently were saved by a man in Springs, and fell in love with his bayside cottage to boot. So peaceful, and really lovely, with loads of cattails, whippoorwills, and a narrow white sand and pebble shoreline. I was reminded of Cape Cod, and the little houses that wedge themselves into the dunes. Now you have a chance to rent one, for the Cape Codesque price of $3,000/week. I dunno how much time you’ll spend eating off it, but I’m really digging the dining room table. MORE PHOTOS More »
The Rude Hamptons
Therudehamptons.com was created to let people vent about the various encounters they have with rude people throughout the hamptons. The editor has “personally been visiting East Hampton for over 31 years and has noticed a significant increase in the amount of rude people in the last couple of years.” My pick of the day:

Coach Legacy Store To Open Today In East Hampton

The Coach Legacy Store is officially opening TODAY in East Hampton. Can’t we all just get passed the mall rat/Canal street C’s and start supporting the brand that pioneered the use of hardware on our accessories? Plus, how many other handbag companies can you name that offer you a lifetime warranty on their products (Coach will repair any authentic item regardless of the reason of disrepair). So what do we think? Anyone going to get to East Hampton today and let us know what the new store looks like?
Who Are Clinton’s Hosts With The Most?
Word on the street is Bill and Hillary have been shacking up at Bill’s billionaire homeboy Thomas H. Lee’s East Hampton abode. During Bill’s White House tenure, the Lee was a frequent guest, and now it seems he’s returning the favor. So just who is T.H. Lee?
-
-
- A wildly successful investment banker and founder of Thomas H. Lee Capital, which owns or has owned Snapple, Playtex, First Alert, and GNC, among others.
- The first citizen of Massachusetts to bequeath over $20 million to a non-profit institution (to his alma-mater and desperately cash-strapped Harvard). Basically, across the board Lee is a huge donor, be it to universities, hospitals, museums, or charities. Google him and you’ll see what I mean. More »
Tales From A Tow-Trucker
Monday, midway through my voyage to Orient Point, the rover decided to play dead. Then it figured “to hell with games; let’s make it a reality.” In Flanders. On a fuel dock. Luckily, my knight in sweat-stained Judas Priest-praising armor arrived in under an hour, and, after much prodding, gave me the breakdown on wheels and the ways of a man who mans eight of them.
- If you have major hots for your mechanic, buy a Bentley.
- If you think he’s kind of cute, a Lamborghini, Maserati, or a good ole Range Rover should suffice.
- If your mechanic has Bud Light breath and nostril hair, buy a Honda.

Lululemon’s Windows In East Hampton Giving Us Words To Live By
Lululemon is expected to open on Saturday the 28th on East Hampton’s Main Street. To me this is a sign of the continued success of their company that has pleased many the Hampton’s set women over the last couple of years with their comfortable and chic workout gear. My workout gear tends to be tattered and torn, rudimentary memorials from my college years, but Lulu’s window ads alone are convincing enough to get even me to stop in so that I may finally fit in at my yoga classes.
Whether you do it while wearing your Lululemon gear or not, always remember to: “DANCE, Sing, Floss AND Travel.” and “Do one thing a day that Scares you!”
