When we’re not out east on the weekends, we’re throwing parties on our rooftop. You’d be amazed what you can do with a couple of Heineken keg cans, a few bottles of cheap red wine, hotdogs, and corn. Our rooftop beerbeque last night had quite a cast of characters from bankers, gropers, bloggers, scenesters and everything in between. Well we could continue to write about it, but pictures are probably the easiest way to understand the shenanigans…

Rufus Wainwright, The “Greatest Songwriter On The Planet” At Last Song Of Summer
[Photo via Hamptons.com]
You may know Rufus Wainwright best as the voice behind the soundtracks of “Moulin Rouge” and “Shrek”, but his unique orchestral pop music has reached far beyond film soundtracks.
Elton John refers to him as “the greatest songwriter on the planet.”
This Saturday, starting at 4pm, Rufus will be performing at Robert Wilson Watermill Center’s “Last Song of Summer”, a benefit for the arts. Legendary female opera singer Jessye Norman will be joining him. Rufus, who is no newcomer to the beach culture (he grew up spending his summer’s on Shelter Island), recently sat down with Hamptons.com to go over his newest project, “Prima Donna” an opera he was commissioned to produce for the Met, as well as his upcoming show in Watermill, his role as a homosexual artist, and the future of his pop career.

The Red Cross Turns 125!

[Russell Simmons at Red Cross. Photos by Rob Rich]
Last Saturday, Aug. 23, we headed to Stone Meadow Farm in East Hampton (the place where Mariah Carey recently got married) to celebrate the 125th birthday of the American Red Cross. On the way in, I was greeted by Rob Rich, and so, we finally meet in person! I also walked in at the same time as my friend Heinz Haas, the tennis pro/teacher who has some BIG things coming up. Russell Simmons, was there, (his jewelry line was one of the evening’s sponsors) as was George Gurley who was interviewing guests on thier favorite moments of the summer. Russell said it was the summer of:
“Barack Obama, as well as yoga, the environment, PETA, the Humane Society and fund-raisers (his July 19 Art for Life event raised $1.7 million).” [The Observer]
