Calling all cultured fashionistas: internationally acclaimed pop surrealist Kenny Sharf will be feted at Roy and Elie Tahari’s East Hampton flagship tomorrow night from 6 to 8. The artist has collaborated with Elie Tahari on a limited edition spring collection (including a physchadelic surf board!), and a portion of the proceeds will go to God’s Love We Deliver. Don’t know anyone who’s going? Doug Marshall and occasional gofgofg Eric Spear will be there, and they are very friendly! Go shop (or sip –cocktails are complimentary) ’til you nearly drop, then display your goodies at Kiss and Fly!
Muchos besos and enjoy your weekend!
Ah the contradictions of the rich! We could write a book on them I’m sure. And, it’s always fun to partake in a good bantering over the conundrums regarding the wealthy from time to time. I never could understand the law placed in Southampton banning clothes being hung out on the line to dry. Back in 2002, some homeowners complained that their neighbor’s laundry outside made the town look shabby and the ban had been in place ever since (until today).
Two reasons this law was such a contradictory one:

Remember The House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus III (or the movie, with Jennifer Connelly and Ben Kingsley)? This is his new one.
One early September night in Florida, a stripper brings her daughter to work. April’s usual babysitter is in the hospital, so she decides it’s best to have her three-year-old daughter close by, watching children’s videos in the office, while she works. Except that April works at the Puma Club for Men. More »

Who wouldn’t want to live “a short swim across the bay from Shelter Island“?
“The gloriously undeveloped 55-acre spread at the northeastern tip of North Haven known as Tyndal Point has just seen its asking price cut $5 million, reports the New York Post’s Braden Keil.” [Gridskipper]
For a measly $75 Million you can pick up the current largest piece of residential real estate in New York.
For the most part, I really like Vilebrequins. I wear the pairs my brothers refuse to, the peach ones, the floral ones, the ones that end at mid-thigh. To me, they are about as classy as a swim suit gets, which is why I was so puzzled by this one. Money motifs are never classy, and I don’t even think they can be the fun type of trashy, especially when they cost $200. What do you guys think? Rhinestone-emblazoned Juicy track suit or Henry Holland tee-shirt?

Here’s what we’d like to sip this summer. Feel free to suggest others.
The 2005 Bedell Gallery, a blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, and Sauvignon Blanc, from Bedell Cellars. “The nose is toasty and complex, with minerality, matchstick, lemon/lime tones and vanilla wafer. The rich, round mouthfeel is highlighted by citrus and Honeysuckle blossoms with oak weaved seamlessly throughout.”
The 2006 Vino Bianco, a blend of Tocai Friulano, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay, from Channing Daughters. “Often we smell and taste tangerines, yellow plums, white peaches, pineapple, juicy dripping pears, hints of vanilla, brown spice, honey and a magical floral quality, almost like acacia blossoms.” More »
I was obsessed with this song Junior year of college. Thanks to reader Megan for suggesting this fine piece.

Okay, this one doesn’t have a picture of the house’s exterior, but it could be the most heinous split-level imaginable and still warrant your greenbacks. 1.5 miles from the beach? 2 minute “stroll” into the village “for sushi at Suki Zuki? 5 minutes from the Water Mill Jitney stop? Backyard Fishing, kayaks, bikes, and wireless? Plus two decks and a kick-ass grill? Just do it, people! More »
Want to feel like you’re part of the experience of the Hamptons club scene but find yourself working as a teller at the local Whole Foods in Montanta? Have no fear…now you too can experience a little taste of Dune, right in the comfort of your very own veranda.
JUST TAKE:
Ray Lamontagne is coming to Westhampton tonight! I can’t believe I didn’t find out about this sooner, but, last time I checked, tickets were still available. If you don’t have prior plans, adopt this one. Lamontagne is one of those musicians with a broad-spectrum appeal; his stuff is a mash of folk, soul, blues, and rock, and it comes across as the epitome of coffee house music. Most of the time, his voice is hushed, winsome, and kind of sea-shorey, and then it’ll suddenly boom and swoop over simple guitar licks. The sound is very lo-fi and straightforward, which usually translates into great live performances. Tonight’s show is at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center and tickets are $70, $85, and $100. I’m stuck in Boston, but allons-y-vous and tell me how it is!
Riddle me this, what is Bellhaus? If you drive by it at night and take a glance, this new store could be an art exhibit: a building whose glass front reveals softly yet perfectly back-lit shelves filled with the hottest shoes and fabbest handbags. Racks of haute couture loom around a few staple pieces of furniture – all for sale. And beauty, there’s beauty (as in skincare) and scented candles. The settings are so gorgeous you almost don’t want t disturb them by buying anything. Almost. More »

Didn’t get any love from a shorty at the Talkhouse? Someone didn’t try to grind on you at Dune? No one cozied up to you at La Playa? NO problem. If opportunities for love or even a french style kiss fell short last weekend, rest assured the weekend is NOT officially over until you throw your bag down on your apartment floor. There are, after all, opportunities on the trip home. Or the trip there for that matter. A few weeks ago before the Summer ‘08 season even began a handsome “married” gent sat next to me on the Hampton Jitney going out east.

Tell me what you guys think of this one. Part of me thinks the ruffling is pretty and interesting, and that the $175 price tag and shopbop endorsement signifies classy eccentricity, like Ruth Vered’s eyeglasses. The other, larger part of me is getting a distinct wiff of Alpha Phi’s Annual Cool Whip Leid Luau. Which part of me is right?

DWI’s, coke binges, rat torture, (possible) facebook plunder, and now burglary! Is is something in the water? Three teenage boys went on a Fire Island raid Tuesday, during which they managed to deprive Michael Kors of his flat screen and Tim Steele of a painting. Unfortunately for our little rascals, these items are somewhat conspicuous, and the police hunt was a short one. According to Newsday, the boys “did not know whose homes they were targeting.” If they had, they would at least have spared their favorite golden Project Runway judge.

Those of you hankering for some rough-hewn, folky blues are in luck: Jake Lear is playing at the Talkhouse tonight. Though Lear is but a youg’un, he plays his guitar like an established veteran –think Stevie Ray Vaughn or Jeff Tweedy. His voice ain’t shabby either, gravely and wistful a la Dylan, if somewhat less reedy. He’s got a tight band with an excellent drummer and a harmonica player, so we’re not surprised about the stellar concert reviews he’s garnered. Click here to sample his goods. Tickets are only $10, so get them while you can!

Monday was memorial day, one of those holidays for which I’m not exactly sure what we are celebrating (I just learned cinqo de mayo does not mean tequila day), but I’m all for supporting/remembering our troups (hay hay USA). Memorial day also means everyone has work off and can attend/throw fabulous BBQs. Not only did I get to indulge in some sloppy BBQ’d food without spilling it on my white pants (that’s right ladies, Mem day is also the official day to break out those babies), but I was lucky enough to enjoy laughs with friends and family on Nantucket. Sam Talbot’s lobster rolls were a large part of the reason I was so excited about hitting up Surf Lodge this past Sunday, so you can imagine how disappointed I was when I arrived to find the kitchen closed. Now, thanks to our gourmand buddies over at Eater, you can also imagine how good these rolls must be. Eater didn’t like everything (apparently the burgers lack oomph), but they were surprised at the amount of potential in the venue, especially as it was only day 2. Maybe passing up on Spitzer’s Corner was actually a blessing in disguise…

I didn’t make the Unruly Heir event at the Blue & Cream store in East Hampton, but Doug and Claire did, and, from the looks of it, they were as fashionable as ever, along with everyone else there. Browse through the pics, isn’t it nice to start seeing COLOR?!?! It’s been a long winter in Gotham, and I can’t wait for more summer fashion hues to brighten up my winter blues….
Claire and I were more impressed with the hot 2 wheelers we saw all around the East End, than any of the cars flashing their lights at us. You know summer’s here when you start seeing colorful shiny bicycles lined up such as the ones above. Ours are in the shop, but by next weekend, you can bet to be seeing us all around the shore line with our baskets and bells ready to make their debuts. And now, for your viewing pleasure, I would like to present Queen:

[Inside the newly opened Surf Lodge]
So here, as promised, is my account of Rachelle’s and my Sunday night revelry. We were supposed to hit up the Southampton Hospital By the Sea benefit. Unfortunately two blondes plus a GPS-free vehicle do not a cartographer make, and the only airings our pretty cocktail dresses got was courtesy of the Southampton CVS (it was, at least, a classy, shingled CVS). First destination aborted, we decided that what we really needed was some reggae with a side of lobster rolls, and sped off to Julian Marley’s concert at Montauk’s Surf Lodge. (More photos below)…

Jeez people, when will you learn that booze doesn’t fall into the cake-you-can have-and-eat category? This MDW, cops nabbed six reckless endangerers in Southampton alone and a whopping 109 in all of Long Island. The authorities, of course, are furious enough that they are releasing names, and in this instance (unlike some others), we are with them. Support local industries; call a cab. No matter what they cost, it’s gotta be cheaper than years of legal fees and the prescription drugs you’ll need on your quest to forget.

Heading out east and heading into your back pockets are TIMO! Wallets for Unruly Heir. I’m a big big fan of TIMO! Wallets and of the Unruly Heir clothing brand, so when Mr. Weiland (as in the unstoppable Timo Weiland) teamed with Unruly to create a signature seersucker-esque wallet, with the integrity of Timo and the style of Unruly, I was bubbled over with excitement. The sophisticatedly sleek wallets are razor thin, but capable of fitting all necessary cash and credit cards. My hat goes off to Timo for realizing any excess material on a wallet, when worn in a back pocket, just creates the illusion of a huge ass tumor.
We may have cursed the East Hampton Police Department (EHPD) under our breath in the past over a parking violation on a holiday weekend, but until Saturday, I could honestly say that as soon as I left Manorville and got onto the Sunrise Highway, I’d feel safe and at peace. The Hamptons’ various police departments used to maintain a safe environment without being unreasonably nit-picky, but something has changed. Perhaps the war hungry Bush era has trickled down to local weekend-home town security, but the vibes I’m starting to get while strolling around the Hamptons is becoming less bucolic New Englandy and more Facist-statey.
…on Monday morning, with the post-spinnies and yogis at Hamptons Coffee
The Pros: Yellow walls, ground coffee smell, really good toast, good french press, staff who will grind coffee to go as you eat, fun people watching.
The Cons: Slow service, expensive, people who know they’re worthy of being watched.

[Whitney Port at Social Life Party, Photo from PMC, more to come!]
After experiencing the hyperbolic preppiness that was the Unruly Heir trunk show, Doug Marshall, his sig o, and I made our way over to Devorah Rose’s Social Life Estate. Our journey was not exactly the smoothest, but after 20,489,096 audacious U-turns and 30 minutes entertaining the Southampton Hess station attendants with our skillful turn at the gas pump, we arrived at the Estate’s luxury car-crammed lane.
While it’s a bit premature to say that this was the glam party of the season, there’s no doubt it’ll be hard to top. Not only did Devorah get Tattinger, Tanqueray No. TEN, and Peroni to sponsor (we counted four bars!), girl also went all out on the decor (private, raised cabanas, oversized chaise lounges, red votives) and the canapes (Kobe beef lollipops, lobster and brie frittatas, duck and cashew spring rolls), plus, via helicopter, Whitney Port from the Hills (and on the cover of Social Life) as host.
Happy Memorial Day from Little Lucy’s Canine Couture Boutique, and EVERY OTHER Boutique in Southampton. American pride was the theme of the day yesterday as flags both big and small were waving all around the Hamptons townships, especially in Southampton where the annual Memorial Day Parade took place on Main Street. Click below for more photos and go here for all of our weekend shenanigans caught on film.
Today’s Car of the week is sitting on the intersection of Scuttle Hole Rd and Highway 27. The best thing about this pristine Mercedes convertible is that it’s For Sale!
Update: Whoops! It’s actually an Alfa Romeo Spyder. Everything is a Mercedes to us. Thank you very much Mr. Abrams for pointing out such an obvious slip….

[Me and Claire outside the Southampton Hospital...NO party in site]
Claire and I were excited to hit up the Southampton Hospital benefit on Sunday night (or at least the cocktails part of it). So we put on our best party dresses and hopped in the gofg mobile. We were on the lookout for a big white tent outside, but forgot to look at the invitation before going….alas we drove up and down Meeting House Lane in Southampton looking for the party, not realizing it was in WEST Hampton. We ended up missing the whole thing, a pair of clichés were we, two blondes in our party dresses with NO CLUE where we were going, we dropped by the local CVS and stocked up and went home to change into cutoffs (and pick up a driver!) and headed all the way out to Montauk to see Bob Marley’s son play at the opening night of the Surf Lodge (post to follow). We are getting GPS installed this week….
We didn’t make it out to Pink Elephant Sunday night (went out to see Bob Marley’s son tear up the Surf Lodge in Montauk instead-post to follow), but this was the picture we got of the place on Monday morning on our way to the Southampton Memorial Day Parade. What a fitting image, the owner of this car must have opted for a taxi home….oh yeah, then there was this girl:
Last summer I remember hearing Rihanna’s “Umbrella” so many times that I wanted to find an umbrella and break it across my head. That, along with Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls.” The summer before that it was “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley with any of Bob Sinclair’s songs (“World Hold On”, “Love Generation”) in close second. “Hollaback Girl” from Miss Stefani may have been summer ‘05? Anyway, after a weekend of driving around out east, with only the radio as our musical host, there is no question that Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Heart” is set to be this Summer’s tune. I’m not sure how this was decided as it’s not even related to summer, but I do know that over the span of 4 hours we must have heard this song played over eight times, not exaggerating. “
[Miguelina Gambaccini and Carrie Cloud eating mister softee at Blue & Cream, East Hampton]
Maybe there wasn’t a cake to put 5 candles in, but there was certainly Ice Cream – and lots of it. This was a Season Opener Memorial Day Kick-Off party of a different kind. On Saturday evening, a wicker basket full of Manhattan’s most fun, stylish and well heeled (just ask Annabel Vartanian about her Costume National 9 story high heels), gentry headed out to the parking lot of Blue & Cream in East Hampton to celebrate their 5th Season with an Unruly Heir Trunk Show.
